When my son, John, was about 10 years old, we wanted to get a family pet, and more importantly for my son to experience taking care of a a pet. We found a male, Golden Retriever, that was about 10 months old. As soon as my son saw Buddy, it was love at first sight because we looked no further for any other dog. Buddy was always playful and especially smart.  As Buddy got older he became very beautiful with golden hair, just like dogs you see in magazine pics or on television.

John was so proud of Buddy. He walked him in the neighborhood and loved to throw sticks in the backyard for Buddy to retrieve. Buddy loved to jump up and catch things in mid-air. For example, he liked to catch birds. We tried to convince Buddy not to do this but it was to no avail. We found a mouse or two and even squirrels that Buddy caught. 

Once my wife was in the backyard standing with her back turned away from Buddy. He made a bee line for my wife and hit her in the back of her knees. She found herself lying flat on her back looking up at the sky with Buddy licking her face.
