Diamonds and Exits

When John and Kathy arrived, Kathy quickly announced that the two of them were not late because of anything relating to herself… Kathy told my wife and I how John and Kathy had been talking about “updating” Kathy’s engagement band to match her wedding band with diamonds.
According to the story, John lost his focus with driving directions when he heard Kathy say the word “diamond” (for her engagement band) and past the correct highway exit for the restaurant. When John realized he had missed the correct exit, he regained his senses and had to travel about five miles further before an exit came up where he could execute a U-turn and join us for lunch.
Funny how one word can cause a man to lose his focus.
