Travel and immigration ban for people with HIV is being lifted by the Obama administration and will take effect early next year. At present, travelers with visas to the U.S. or seeking green card are not permitted to enter.

President Barack Obama is signing a bill to extend the Ryan White HIV/AIDS program. He said, “If we want to be the global leader in combating HIV/AIDS, we need to act like it.”

Intended purpose of this law is to release stigma against HIV/AIDS. Obama has said that this stigma “has stopped people from getting tested and has helped spread the disease.” According to Associated Press, “Obama noted his own effort several years ago to help combat the stigma. During a 2006 visit to Kenya, his father’s native country, then Sen. Obama and his wife, Michelle, publicly took an HIV/AIDS test.”

In the U.S. more than 1 million people live with this disease and every year there are 56,000 newly reported cases.

The Groom's Speech

The groom “thanks” everyone in the wedding party. In particular, he should say:

  1. Thank you to the bride's father for his kind words, blessings and (where appropriate) his enormous generosity in paying for the wedding.
  2. Thank you to anyone else (perhaps his own family) for their financial contribution.
  3. Thank you to his own parents for, well, bringing him up to be an upstanding citizen.
  4. Thank you to everyone for accepting their invitation to the wedding and for their kind gifts.
  5. Thank you to his best man.
  6. Thank you to any ushers and other key helpers.
  7. A special toast on behalf of the bride and groom to the bridesmaids and groomsmen.

As well as thanking everyone, the groom's speech should also have a certain entertainment value, though not to the extent that it becomes a cheap game show. In terms of its entertainment value, the groom's speech should fall somewhere between that of the bride's father and the best man. In terms of sensitivities, if you are a regular presenter or speaker as part of your work or perhaps a bit of a natural show-off, you might want to consider not showing off or showing up the bride's father. Wedding speeches are supposed to be sincere but entertaining, but not to the extent that it is a competition to be judged by the guests with a 'clap-o-meter'.

When my son, John, was about 10 years old, we wanted to get a family pet, and more importantly for my son to experience taking care of a a pet. We found a male, Golden Retriever, that was about 10 months old. As soon as my son saw Buddy, it was love at first sight because we looked no further for any other dog. Buddy was always playful and especially smart.  As Buddy got older he became very beautiful with golden hair, just like dogs you see in magazine pics or on television.
