So you have some free time and want to “connect” with your spouse. Here are four suggestions to keep that “spark alive”…
- Go to the putt-putt golf course as a family activity. Wives, under no circumstances, do you suggest going to the golf course.
- Park your car at the end of the airport parking or go to the airport observation deck and sit close to one another in the outdoors. Just quietly relax, watching planes come and go. Men like any machine that moves (planes, trains, automobiles, boats).
- If your kids are staying with friends for the evening, go to a nice hotel overnight. Enjoy a nice dinner in the hotel restaurant or order room service. When my wife and I have stayed at a hotel overnight, I always offer to make up the bed the next morning. (It’s the thought that counts, isn’t it?)
- Visit a stationery storea and read/exchange interesting greeting cards standing near one another. There are some humorous cards in circulation. While you are looking at cards, purchase the cards you need for upcoming birthdays, anniversaries, etc.

Ready for more fun things?
- Join a dance group or enroll in a dance class at a community center or professional dance instruction business. Ladies, many men like dancing with their wives once you get them to the edge of the dance floor. Dancing encourages leadership and teamwork development in a husband.
- Go to a symphony, outdoor amphitheater concert…somewhere musical where there is an intermission with friends. This is a great couple or foursome event idea. Wives, if you insist on going to the opera, tell the men to leave their sound devices at home and try to experience the live music.
- Go on a cruise. If you have kids, Disney Cruise Line is great. Depending on your budget, you can go from three nights to two weeks and come back home rejuvenated. My experience has been that adults go into “email withdrawal” about the third or fourth day away from the computer. Don’t fret if you go to island hopping anywhere in the world because every major island has an Internet Café where you can do everything on the Internet that you can do from your home base for a small fee.
- Many restaurants will give a patron celebrating their birthday or anniversary a free dessert. My wife and I have a list of seven area restaurants that have great desserts that we split on such occasions. It’s fun to eat at one of these restaurants for lunch and another one for dinner.
- Vacation with imagination. Go to a nice hotel restaurant for a two-hour relaxing meal – then return to reality by going home.
I hope these ideas help you create ideas you can use. Have fun…

Here are 13 enriching activities (in two parts) to keep that “spark” in married life:
- Go to the putt-putt golf course as a family activity. Women under no circumstances do you suggest going to the golf course. I’m starting off easy here.
Check into the hotel around 5 p.m., enjoy a nice dinner in the hotel restaurant (or order room service) and enjoy being pampered by hotel staff+ overnight. When my wife and I have stayed at a hotel overnight, I always offer to make up the bed the next morning. (It’s the thought that counts, isn’t it?).
- Visit a card shop and read/exchange interesting greeting cards standing near one another. There are some humorous cards in circulation. While you’re looking at cards, purchase the cards you need for upcoming birthdays, anniversaries, etc.
- If there is a bakery close to your house with table to sit down…enjoy a relaxing meal. The aroma of fresh baked bread and pastries will anchor memories of the two of you being together for years to come. Large delis are also fun places where you can share meals and smell great aromas.
- From the earliest spring until latest autumn, suggest a picnic to your husband. In an essential outline, going on a picnic means the packing of a lunch or supper basket – possibly several baskets – with things to eat and drink, and then either walking, sailing, paddling or driving to some pleasant outdoor spot…and eating this lunch or dinner.
Your picnic can be as elaborate as you like. You can bring all the food and drink prepared in advance or cook a meal on site. I suggest you keep food and drink simple and bring everything prepared for ease of setup and disposal. Keep the emphasis on your relationship. - Let’s carry this idea one more step. If you are close to a bread factory (often the bread factories are in the downtown area), visit the “customer walk-in” area of the factory mid-evening when bread is coming off the conveyor belt. Purchase bread while it is warm and before it is wrapped. If you have time to sit outside the factory, bring a bottle of honey and some paper plates.
- If you’re kids are staying with friends, consider staying at home with no agenda. Wake up the next morning with no agenda until you have to pick-up the kids. If you work this right with the other kids’ parents, you can extend the morning after to include other activities with your spouse.
Stay tuned for more fun things to do with your spouse…

Do you have a need for a small gift for your wife that is fun and playful? Here is an idea that you can use.
My wife likes to take baths and long soaks so for this past Valentine's Day, I gave her a couple of cute rubber duckies, a large and small one. She was delighted and loved to tell her friends about it, too.

I met, as it turns out, my wife in 1979. We had an art class together that met every Tuesday and Thursday evenings. "I noticed her the first day and wanted her to be mine." But I had just one dilemma: How do I get the chance to talk to her?
The art class lasted 2 and one-half hours with a 15-minute break in the middle . I noticed that Karen would bring a lunch bag with an apple inside. She would usually go upstairs and buy a Pepsi pop. This gave me an idea.
