Next to the vehicle a man drives, music is the next closest expression of the male psyche. Man’s taste in music will change, as he grows older with one exception: your husband will want to keep at least a remnant of tunes from his teenage and early twenties for nostalgic reasons.
Embrace your husband’s passion for music. You can use his passion for music to your advantage, wives. For example, say your husband likes rock-and-roll and jazz. You like jazz, but you can pass on most of the rock-and-roll in favor of reggae. The two of you can purchase CDs, download MP3 tunes and burn CDs of songs you both like and be on your own when it comes to his rock-and-roll and your reggae. You can share that love of jazz together in the car, your bedroom, media room, wherever and “retreat” to your privacy for listening to tunes you singly like.
Do not try to fight your husband’s taste in music because this will only drive a rife between the two of you. If you absolutely cannot stand the music for your husband’s mood, either leave the room, bring him stereo headphones to wear or find a portable music device (e.g., small player he can attach to his belt). If the two of you are in the car with music you are certain is “audio pollution,” agree on a neutral tome of music until you get home or he is able to listen to “his music” on his portable music device.
