Traditional marriage is being examined by states of Maine, Washington, New York, and California. President Barack Obama has also weighed in on the subject.

Maine's Stand on Traditional Marriage

Maine is in a heated battle over traditional marriage with a vote on Nov. 3 to repeal same-sex marriage which was just voted on in May. According to Reuters and Marc Mutty, campaign chairman of Stand for Marriage Maine, the answer to the official Yes to Question 1 campaign is:

“Today’s financial reports reveal a disturbing, but unsurprising reality. Our opponents, while claiming to be the home-grown, locally supported campaign, have amassed from virtually every state in the nation a campaign fortune of more than $2 million to destroy traditional marriage in Maine.” It is not just a Maine local organization. Why is this outpouring with dollars from every state in the nation? According to Reuters, it is very simple because:

“They don’t want to defend the teaching of homosexual marriage to your children in public schools, so they are spending millions to try to deny and deny.” Voter turnout will determine if the previous vote on marriage is repealed.

Washington State on Traditional Marriage

Voters of Washington will be voting on Nov. 3 on Referendum 71 to approve or reject it. Approval “would grant registered domestic partnerships the same rights, responsibilities and obligations under state law now enjoyed by married couples, with the exception of marriage,” according to HeraldVet.

New York Cases on Traditional Marriage

In New York, the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) has taken two defense cases for traditional marriage. New York has always recognized marriage as between one woman and one man but in these cases state and county officials took it upon themselves to redefine marriage for the whole state of New York. According to OneNewsNow, in the case of “Lewis v. New York Department of Civil Service, the state agency is accused of illegally redefining the term “spouse” to extend benefits to same-gender partners married in states where it is legal. And in Godfrey v. Spano, Westchester County Executive Andrew Spano is accused of ordering county agencies to recognize out-of-state same-sex marriages.”

California's Proposition 8

Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker will soon rule on Proposition 8, the constitutional amendment protecting traditional marriage between a man and a woman. Homosexual activists are continuing to try and overthrow Proposition 8. This motion could end this overturning.

President Barack Obama Comments on Traditional Marriage

According to Varlden idag, “Obama stated at a ‘gay rights’ meeting in Washington DC that he will “fight against traditional marriage.” He wants to repeal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) which states that marriage is between one man and one woman. DOMA was signed into law by President Bill Clinton in 1996 and passed in both houses with huge majorities. He said, “You will see a time in which we as a nation finally recognize relationships between two men or two women as just as real and admirable as relationships between a man and a woman.” He suggested to his audience to “continue the campaign against ‘fellow citizens’ who ‘hold fast to outworn arguments and old attitudes.” He went on to say “…who fail to see your families like their families; who would deny you the rights most Americans take for granted.”

Stay tuned for a Nov. 3 update…
