According to Reginald Bibby, a University of Lathbridge sociologist, "the traditional family remains not only the most prevalent family situation in Canada, but also the one most people hold up as the ideal family arrangement." In 2009, marriages and births are up in Russia for the first time as mentioned in 3News.com.

A 2002 "Why Marriage Matters" report, sponsored by the Institute to American Values, concludes three fundamentals:

1. The benefits of marriage extend to poor and minority communities
2. Marriage is an important public good
3. Marriage is an important social good

Marriage is a strong institution in the U.S. because it has survived the following events:

• Divorce, the Pill, 60s sexual revolution
• Feminist organization mantra in 1969 - "Marriage and the family must be eliminated."
• In 1974, Ti-Grace Atkinson said, "The institution of sexual intercourse is anti-feminist ... (and) the price of clinging to the enemy (men) is your life."
• In 1980s, married women were considered the defacto "prostitute" by the feminists.
